What are Academic Skills?

Academic Skills are those school skills that all students in every grade need to succeed. Huntington helps by offering tutoring in reading, writing, study skills, math, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, and related areas. We work with students in grades K through 12, as well as college and adult students.

Who We Can Help

Remedial Focus on improvement of K-12 basic skills to help a student transition out of remedial classes into mainstream classes.
Enrichment Focus on curriculum at or above the student's current grade in school in order to provide a challenge beyond what occurs during the school day.
Summer School Many of our centers have earned accreditation status, which means students can attend the center to earn credit for summer courses.
Study Skills Program devoted to improving organizational skills, including note-taking, time management, and test-taking strategies.

Focus on getting your child ready to enter 1st grade, with a concentration on letters, sounds, numbers, and following directions.
College/Adult Work with college-level and adult learners on basic skills, writing and study skills, or general coursework to get ahead in college or career.

How does it work?

We tailor our tutoring to meet your child's academic needs so he or she can meet or exceed his or her academic goals. Here's how it works:

  • We gain your perspective on your child's needs through several discussions followed by an academic evaluation.

  • We use this information to develop a tutoring program tailored to meet those needs. We discuss this program during an initial conference with you.

  • Our caring, concerned tutors work with your child to build missing skills.
